Privacy
Short version: no accounts, no ads, no cookies. Your events stay in your browser, or on your iPhone and in your own iCloud — they're never stored on our server.
howmanydaysfrom.com and the How Many Days iPhone app are made by Ondřej Trávníček, an individual developer in the Czech Republic. Questions and requests: support@howmanydaysfrom.com.
Your events
- On the website, the events you add are saved only in your browser on that device (its local storage). Clearing the site's data removes them.
- In the iPhone app, events are stored on your iPhone, where the app's own widgets can read them, and — unless you turn off Sync with iCloud in the app's settings — in your own iCloud account, so they show up on your other iPhones and iPads and come back on a new phone. iCloud is Apple's service tied to your Apple Account: we have no access to it and never receive your events. They're also part of your iPhone backups like any other app data.
- Purchases (How Many Days Pro) are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details or your Apple Account; the app only learns from Apple whether Pro has been bought.
- Pictures you share ("1,000 days since we met") are drawn on your iPhone and go only where you send them.
- Share links (
howmanydaysfrom.com/e/…) carry the event — its name, emoji and date — inside the link itself. Nothing is saved on our side, but anyone who has the link can see the event, so share it as you would share that information.
What our server sees
- Like any website, our server receives your IP address, the address you ask for (a page, a share link, a calendar feed, an image) and your browser or app version. The access logs keep this for up to 90 days, for security and troubleshooting, and then delete it.
- The search box looks up famous dates on our server, so what you type there (from two letters on) is part of that request. Holidays, dates and your own events are searched in your browser; a search that matches one of your events isn't sent at all.
- The iPhone app downloads the public list of today's beautiful numbers from the same server. That request carries nothing about your events.
- Calendar subscriptions and embedded countdown widgets are loaded from our server by your calendar app, or by the page that embeds them.
Visit statistics (website only)
- We count visits with our own copy of Umami, running on the same server. It sets no cookies and doesn't store IP addresses. It records the page, the referring site, browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language and country.
- Share links are masked before they're counted: they're recorded as
/e/[shared], never with the event in them. - The iPhone app has no analytics at all.
Notifications
The app's notifications ("Exactly 1,000 days since we met") are planned on your iPhone. There's no push server and nothing leaves the device. Turn them off in the app (Your events → ••• → Settings) or in iOS Settings.
Where it runs, and who else is involved
- The website runs on a server at WEDOS in the Czech Republic (EU).
- Pages load no third-party trackers, ads, fonts or scripts. Famous dates come from Wikidata (public data), downloaded by our server — your browser never talks to it.
- We don't sell or share data with anyone.
Legal basis and your rights
Server logs and visit statistics are kept on the basis of legitimate interest: running and securing the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). You can ask for access to, correction or deletion of data about you, or object to its use, at support@howmanydaysfrom.com. With no accounts, the only thing we can usually find is a log entry. You can also complain to the Czech data protection authority, Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů.
